The agreement between the host city and the International School sport Federation (ISF) was signed in south China's Jinjiang City on November 1, 2017. The signing ceremony marked that Jinjiang would join hands with ISF and CSSF to officially start the preparation for the 2020 Gymnasiade.

The closing ceremony of the 17th Gymnasiade was held in Marrakesh, Morocco at 3:30 a.m of Beijing time on May 9, 2018. As the host city of the 18th Gymnasiade, Jinjiang City of southeast China's Fujian Province received the Gymnasiade flag at the closing ceremony.

At the one-year countdown to 18th Gymnasiade held on the evening of October 19, the image ambassador, logo, and slogan "Better Us, Better Future" of the event were revealed, marking the preparation for the event has entered a new homestretch.

The International School Sport Federation (ISF) announced Thursday that the 18th ISF Gymnasiade (School Summer Games) originally scheduled to be held in Jinjiang of southeast China's Fujian Province from 17th to 24th October 2020 was rescheduled to November 26 to December 3, 2022.
